In a recent visit to Jiangxi Smide Semiconductor Co., located in the Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, we witnessed firsthand the cutting-edge activities taking place within their production facility. On a crisp autumn afternoon, staff clad in dustproof suits were busy fine-tuning equipment, while automated production lines operated at full capacity to meet growing demand.
“Digital transformation is key to the high-quality development of manufacturing enterprises,” explained Jiang Haibo, the Operations Director at Jiangxi Smide Semiconductor. “In our digital production workshop, every step of the process is controlled by smart devices, enabling one worker to manage dozens of machines.”
Since establishing operations in Nanchang in 2020, Jiangxi Smide Semiconductor has been at the forefront of technological advancement, investing in state-of-the-art fully automated production equipment and digital management systems. They’ve meticulously developed a high-standard automated LED packaging production workshop, boasting 500 fully automated LED production lines. “Data-driven production not only enhances the visibility and controllability of our machines but also significantly supports intelligent manufacturing, leading to continuous improvements in product quality,” Jiang emphasized.
As we shifted our focus to the broader Nanchang Economic Development Zone, it became evident that many manufacturing firms are breaking free from traditional production modes. These companies are pursuing industrial transformation and upgrading initiatives to bolster new, high-quality productive forces through scientific advancements.
At Nanchang Haili Electric Co., the atmosphere was alive with the energy of “smart manufacturing.” Robotic arms worked in coordinated harmony while a digital dashboard displayed real-time production data, showcasing the company’s status as one of Jiangxi’s leading smart manufacturing enterprises and one of the largest intelligent air conditioning compressor factories worldwide.
In recent years, Nanchang Haili Electric has strategically embraced long-term information technology investments. By integrating advanced hardware such as automated warehouses, industrial robots, and quality control equipment, they have achieved seamless data flow across the entire production and supply chain—from supplier materials to logistics and quality inspection—creating a robust data foundation for efficient operations and management.
“A key focus during our digital transformation has been on technological integration and innovation,” said a representative from Nanchang Haili Electric. “We are gradually modernizing our air conditioning compressor production lines and upgrading information systems across design, procurement, and sales. This comprehensive approach has digitized our entire supply chain. As a result, we have seen a significant boost in production efficiency and product quality, with a 30% reduction in defect rates and a 50% drop in rework costs.”
The city of Nanchang is actively promoting the deep integration of the digital economy with the real economy, showing promising trends in digitizing the manufacturing sector. Many companies are making the leap to “the cloud,” embracing digital solutions that enhance energy efficiency, cut costs, and improve quality, thereby transforming traditional manufacturing into intelligent manufacturing.
