The 2024 Science and Technology Awards of the China Old Scientists and Technologists Association were announced and awarded

On October 14, 2023, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) announced a significant event at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, coinciding with the traditional Chinese holiday honoring the elderly, known as Chongyang Festival. The event, themed “Building a Strong Country,” celebrated the 2024 National Day for Senior Science and Technology Workers and featured the announcement and presentation of the annual scientific and technological awards from the China Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists.

During the event, esteemed guests including Honorary President of the China Association for Senior Scientists and Technologists, Chen Zhili, and President of CAST, Wan Gang, presented commemorative medals to the award recipients. This year, ten individuals received the “Outstanding Award,” while 186 individuals and 33 organizations were honored with the “Scientific and Technological Award.” Academician Luo Xiwen from South China Agricultural University represented the awardees and addressed the audience.

The main event was hosted by He Junke, Secretary of the Party Group for CAST. Notable speakers included Li De-ren, a winner of the State Science and Technology Award, and Huang Luqi, President of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

CAST extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to senior science and technology workers, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among various CAST organizations to support the China Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists in their mission. They expressed hopes for the elderly to continue contributing to decision-making, scientific innovation, and public science education, enhancing their roles in serving the community. The event also highlighted the ongoing need to create conditions and provide assistance for senior scientists to enjoy meaningful and fulfilling lives.
