Yiwu, Zhejiang -gathers- 13,500 positions for recruitment on the same stage

On October 19, the “Career Paths to the Future” 2024 National Tour Recruitment Event made its stop in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, featuring a specialized job fair for trade and commerce talent. The event showcased 935 businesses offering 13,500 job positions, while over 8,000 university students from 73 universities across 11 provinces attended.

“I noticed that most of the students here are aligning their studies with the job openings available,” said Mao Zhen, the HR manager for a local branch of a group company. “We received nearly 200 resumes at the event, and after our initial screening, 73 students have already secured positions to start this month.” The company revealed that it is looking to fill over 300 roles, including supply chain specialists and business analysts, with monthly salaries ranging from 7,000 to 12,000 yuan.

In a bid to capitalize on the golden job-hunting period in September and October and enhance high-quality employment opportunities for college graduates and young people, the Yiwu Human Resources and Social Security Bureau collaborated with various departments to gather information on job vacancies and candidate preferences prior to the event. Invitations were sent to universities nationwide, garnering responses from institutions such as East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Gansu University of Political Science and Law.

“I brought a stack of resumes to the fair, and six companies were interested in my internship application, which made the job search quite efficient,” shared Zhang Mingyu, a young job seeker. He mentioned he was currently comparing salary offers and career prospects before making a decision.

The event featured dedicated service areas for company recruitment, skills training, and entrepreneurial incubation. There was also an online employment and entrepreneurship streaming platform to facilitate remote talent acquisition. University representatives interacted face-to-face with hiring companies to discuss the “order class” talent training model among other topics.

Additionally, a workshop titled “New Momentum for Rural Revitalization: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs” took place during the event, providing training for the top 20 finalists of the Fourth “Rural Revitalization and Smart Innovation for the Future” Women’s Entrepreneurship Competition. Seasoned entrepreneurs provided hands-on guidance to improve participants’ entrepreneurial skills and project viability, while also supporting the development of live-streaming e-commerce in regions like Bazhou District of Bazhong City in Sichuan Province and Tianzheng County in Datong City, Shanxi Province.

In recent years, Yiwu has consistently held job fairs and entrepreneurial exchange events for young talent. In 2023 alone, the city brought in 46,500 university students, making up 46% of the city’s total new migrant population.

A representative from the Yiwu Human Resources and Social Security Bureau noted, “Yiwu focuses on meeting the full cycle of employment and entrepreneurship needs for college graduates and young people, facilitating platforms, resources, and services, while fostering a nurturing environment for talent development. We conduct over 300 ‘online + offline’ talent exchange activities annually.”
