Ministry of Commerce- Willing to work with all trading partners, including Australia, to meet each other halfway

On October 24, the Ministry of Commerce held a press conference to share updates on key initiatives in the business sector.

During the event, a reporter posed a question regarding the recent fact-finding report published by Australia’s trade remedy investigation authority concerning the sunset review of anti-dumping and countervailing measures on stainless steel sinks from China. The report indicated that terminating these measures wouldn’t cause substantial harm to the domestic industry and recommended that they be ended by March 26, 2025. The reporter asked for China’s comments on this matter.

In response, He Yadong, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, acknowledged the publication of the report by the Australian Anti-Dumping Commission on October 17. He expressed that China’s termination of these measures would be beneficial for deepening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, fostering mutual benefits and a win-win outcome.

He emphasized that China and Australia are significant trading partners. Through joint efforts, they have reached a consensus within the framework of the World Trade Organization to resolve trade disputes effectively, promoting the stable and healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations. He added that China advocates for resolving trade frictions through dialogue and negotiation and is willing to work collaboratively with all trading partners, including Australia, to address each other’s legitimate concerns and jointly uphold a fair and stable international trade environment.
