At just seven years old, Hong Kong pianist Tsz Hon Anson Wong took the stage at Carnegie Hall, a remarkable feat for such a young talent. The concert, titled “Baroque to Rock,” showcased the incredible musical journey led by pianist Christie Julien and violinist Alexander Markov, with Wong making a special guest appearance.
“The performance is a unique musical experience,” described the organizers, BirdOnAPiano. “It invites the audience on a journey through centuries of music, blending masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods with rock music. This fusion highlights the versatility and exceptional talent of the artists, allowing listeners to rediscover familiar melodies in a fresh way.”
The concert featured iconic works from classical masters such as Vivaldi, Gluck, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Prokofiev, all accompanied by a chamber orchestra and a youth choir. Tsz Hon Anson Wong began his musical journey at the age of two and a half under the guidance of Hong Kong music master Siu Kit Kiu, and he has a special fondness for Markov, having performed alongside him previously.
In 2023, he started collaborating with the In-heritage Philharmonic and made his debut at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in August 2023 and is set to perform again in June 2024. Prior to this concert, he also shared the stage with the Vienna Mozart Symphony Orchestra at the renowned Golden Hall in Vienna.
Markov, celebrated as one of the most versatile musicians, has performed for 25,000 attendees at sports arenas with his golden electric violin. Julien noted that curating a program capable of resonating with the audience presented a unique challenge, while also allowing them the opportunity to freely explore various musical styles.
