Special article|In response to the century-old changes in the world, China takes the lead in promoting the stability and long-term development of the -Greater BRICS Cooperation-

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency, experts from various countries discussed the significant role of China in the ongoing “BRICS” cooperation, as Chinese President Xi Jinping attends the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. They highlighted President Xi’s important speeches and proposals at this meeting, suggesting that they will lead to a strengthened “Big BRICS Cooperation,” fostering solidarity among developing nations and contributing to the creation of a better world.

“I cannot imagine what BRICS would be like without China; it is the primary pillar and driving force behind the BRICS cooperation mechanism,” stated Ihsaan Juma, Head of the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Committee. He expressed his anticipation for President Xi’s proposals on jointly upholding international fairness and justice, emphasizing that many view China as a credible voice for developing and emerging market countries.

“China plays a crucial role in enhancing the BRICS cooperation mechanism, advocating for fairness and justice as well as multilateralism,” noted Zukiswa Robogi, a researcher from South Africa’s Walter Sisulu University. “China’s leadership has facilitated the establishment of the New Development Bank, making it easier for emerging economies to access financing and creating opportunities for international trade, investment, and development.”

“China has made key contributions to the success of the BRICS cooperation mechanism,” added Balram Deepak, a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. “The New Development Bank serves as a significant platform, providing substantial funds for development. BRICS cooperation has achieved success in food security, industrial development, green energy, and infrastructure. China’s involvement has been vital across all these areas.”

Evandro Carvalho, an associate professor at the Federal University of Fluminense in Brazil, emphasized that China’s role in achieving consensus among BRICS nations cannot be overstated. He remarked that many forums within the BRICS framework often receive decisive support from China, strengthening collaboration among the peoples of BRICS countries.

Amidst growing expectations, experts noted that “Big BRICS Cooperation” is expanding its influence, appeal, and credibility. “We aim to broaden the BRICS community and be more inclusive,” said a representative from the UAE. “This would inject new energy into the BRICS cooperation while enhancing the representation and influence of our nations.”

The transformation of the BRICS mechanism has been historic, according to those involved in the discussions. “Over 30 countries are currently expressing interest in joining BRICS, demonstrating the vitality and attraction of the cooperation mechanism,” said Ihsaan Juma. This broadening of the BRICS family is largely attributed to the perception that China, along with other BRICS nations, serves as a reliable partner.

Alok Kumar Patak, a researcher from India, noted that with the expansion of BRICS, the group now possesses greater representativity and developmental potential, enabling it to further advance global governance towards greater fairness and equity. Ahmed Ali from the Dubai Gulf Research Center agreed, highlighting that the BRICS+ cooperation model proposed by President Xi has opened doors for emerging markets and developed nations alike.

As the first major grouping of the Global South, BRICS exemplifies solidarity among developing nations, addressing challenges and championing a multipolar, inclusive world economy. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov shared his commitment to deepening cooperation with China under the BRICS framework, emphasizing their common goals.

“BRICS countries have become more significant than the G7, with vast potential for cooperation,” added former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, now head of the New Development Bank. She reaffirmed the bank’s role as a vital platform for genuine cooperation among global South nations.

The discussions emphasized that the BRICS spirit aligns closely with global initiatives for development, security, and civilization, demonstrating China’s commitment to dissolving international rifts and fostering equitable cooperation. As geopolitical tensions challenge economic stability, experts welcomed initiatives aimed at preserving peace and development around the world.

In summary, the effectiveness of the BRICS cooperation mechanism as a significant platform for the Global South is increasingly recognized by members. With China continuing to play a pivotal role, the organization is poised to influence the direction of international order towards greater equity and justice.
