On October 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with leaders of major media outlets from BRICS nations. According to reports from Sputnik News, President Putin addressed the perceived efforts by the United States to stifle China’s growth, suggesting that such actions have ultimately backfired on the U.S. economy. He noted that America’s trade restrictions against China are not politically motivated but rather an attempt to slow down China’s economic advancement. However, Putin firmly believes that these efforts will not halt China’s progress.
During the meeting, which included Gissarov, the general director of the “Today Russia” media group representing Russia, Putin stated, “This is impossible, much like telling the sun, ‘Do not rise.’ The sun will rise, after all. Economic development follows an objective process influenced by countless factors.”
Putin pointed out that attempts to restrain China’s growth have resulted in consequences for the U.S. itself, leading to a reduction in the competitiveness of American products.
He elaborated, “When measured by purchasing power parity rather than per capita income, the world’s largest economy today is China, followed by the United States. However, when we consider per capita, the U.S. ranks much higher.”
Highlighting the significant size of China’s economy, Putin remarked, “China is now the largest economy, the U.S. is second, India is third, and Russia ranks fourth, slightly above Japan.”
He conveyed to the leaders of BRICS media that Russia views China as a strategic partner and ally.
