On October 19, 2024, the China Tennis Tour Whale Sports CTA 500 kicked off at the Shitang Sports Park tennis courts in Xiamen’s Haicang District, drawing tennis talents from across the country to compete fiercely for championship glory.
This marks the second time this event has taken place in Xiamen. Organizers cite the success of last year’s inaugural event as a primary reason for its return, alongside Xiamen’s rich tennis culture and excellent conditions for hosting sporting events.
Xiamen is recognized as one of the key cities for tennis in China, boasting a long history and cultural depth in the sport. In recent years, the city has enhanced its tennis facilities and actively organized various tournaments, laying a solid foundation for the growth and popularization of tennis.
The tournament spans two days, featuring five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, with over 500 participants and a total prize pool of 300,000 RMB. In addition to thrilling matches, the event will include various tennis-related activities, such as the second annual “Whale Sports Cup” decisive shot tennis competition, the China Mini Tennis City Star Challenge – Xiamen weekend, and the 2024 China Pickleball Tour – Xiamen (CPC-50), providing tennis enthusiasts a platform to showcase their skills and network.
Moreover, during the tournament, a community service initiative titled “Healthy China, Ready to Respond” will take place at the Whale Tennis Academy in Haicang District, focusing on the public distribution of free AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and emergency rescue equipment.
The 2024 China Tennis Tour Whale Sports CTA 500 is jointly hosted by the Tennis Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Sports and Youth Programs Center of China Central Radio and Television, the China Tennis Association, the Xiamen Sports Bureau, and the Haicang District People’s Government, with the Haicang District Bureau of Culture and Tourism managing the event. The aim is to promote national fitness and enhance public health through high-level tennis competitions.
