Akpan Ekpo Bags Emeritus Professorship

In a recent announcement, the University of Uyo has granted the title of Emeritus Professor to Prof. Akpan Hogan Ekpo from the Department of Economics. This honor recognizes his significant contributions to the university and society. Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, the university’s Registrar and Secretary to the Senate, communicated the decision in a letter to Prof. Ekpo, stating that the formal conferment will take place during the university’s combined Convocation Ceremony on November 9, 2024.

The honor was approved during the Senate’s 131st meeting held in December 2023. In her message to Prof. Ekpo, Okorie wrote, “I am pleased to inform you that the Senate of the University of Uyo, in its meeting on September 25, 2024, has approved your conferment as Emeritus Professor. This distinction is based on your exemplary service to the university and to humanity.”

Okorie expressed hope that this recognition would not only celebrate Prof. Ekpo’s achievements but also inspire further contributions to the advancement of the university and the nation as a whole. She also requested that he submit his citation and curriculum vitae to the Registrar to assist the Convocation Planning Committee in preparing the necessary documentation for the ceremony.

She further outlined, “The duties and privileges associated with the title of Emeritus Professor have been established by the Senate during its 129th meeting on December 20, 2023, and may be updated by the University Council as necessary.”

In closing, she conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s warm regards to Prof. Ekpo.
