The 2024 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship kicks off in Qingyuan, Guangdong

On October 10, 2024, the National Wheelchair Basketball Championships kicked off in Qingyuan, Guangdong, attracting 266 athletes from regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hebei, Henan, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Tibet, and Guangdong.

Qingyuan, chosen for its advantageous geographic location and beautiful ecological environment, is providing an excellent competitive atmosphere for the participating teams. In her opening remarks, Su Jindan, a member of the Qingyuan Municipal Government and Deputy Mayor, expressed the city’s commitment to delivering high-quality organization and service for the event, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.

Ke Mofu, Deputy Director of the Competition Department in the Guangdong Special Olympics Committee and Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation, hopes that this championship will strengthen camaraderie and foster communication among athletes. He emphasized the event’s role in offering valuable opportunities for participants to learn and improve their skills as they prepare for the 2025 National Special Olympics.

The championships, running from October 10 to October 14, feature competitions in both men’s and women’s five-a-side and three-a-side basketball. The top eight teams will qualify for the finals at the 2025 National Special Olympics. This tournament is a crucial precursor to next year’s Special Olympics, serving as a significant platform for identifying outstanding athletes and showcasing the advancement of disability sports in China.

The event is jointly organized by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the Chinese Paralympic Committee, with support from the Guangdong Special Olympics Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation.
