The 2024 World Forum on Science and Development, hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, is set to take place from October 22 to 24 in Beijing. This year’s theme, “Science and Technology for the Future,” aims to gather global expertise to empower high-quality development and promote enhanced international scientific and cultural exchanges.
According to the organizers, the forum will feature six thematic meetings and three roundtable discussions, along with various cultural exchange events interspersed throughout the program.
The six thematic meetings will cover a range of topics, including: innovations in artificial intelligence governance to foster a scientific governance ecosystem and build international trust; cross-disciplinary development to provide solutions for sustainable growth; open scientific infrastructure as a collaborative platform for the upcoming “Decade of Science”; resource integration across sectors to create innovative applications in smart manufacturing; achieving environmental and social harmony for better health and well-being; and international scientific and cultural exchanges to create opportunities for a more resilient future through global cooperation for sustainable development.
The three roundtable discussions will focus on encouraging women’s participation in science and technology, promoting the flow of scientific policy, and effectively advancing sustainable development goals.
As of now, over 120 international representatives from 28 countries and regions—including Nobel Laureates, Turing Award winners, heads of international and national scientific organizations, and prominent educators and entrepreneurs—have confirmed their attendance, marking the highest number of participants in the forum’s history.
The World Forum on Science and Development was initiated by the China Association for Science and Technology in 2019 to gather global insights, inspire innovative ideas, and create a platform for grassroots scientific exchange, all while contributing technological solutions and global initiatives towards sustainable development. Over the past five years, the forum has played a significant role in fostering international scientific collaborations and building a network based on open trust and cooperation.
