On the evening of October 6th, Hezbollah launched a series of rockets targeting Haifa, a northern Israeli city, resulting in at least six injuries. This incident marks the first time in the ongoing conflict that rockets have struck Haifa directly. According to CNN, Hezbollah claimed the Carmel military base was their target, but Israeli officials confirmed that rockets and debris instead landed around the city.
Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, reported that two individuals were treated at the scene. One of the injured was a 13-year-old boy who suffered shrapnel wounds to the head, while an adult man sustained injuries from shattered glass caused by the explosion. Thankfully, all those injured are in stable condition, with no serious injuries reported.
Experts believe this incident signifies Hezbollah’s first direct assault on Haifa with rockets. Haifa, a vital port city in northern Israel, is situated along the Mediterranean Sea to the west and bordered by the Carmel Mountain range to the east. It is currently Israel’s third-largest city, following Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military confirmed they had detected five rockets heading toward Haifa. Despite efforts to intercept them, several managed to reach the city. Israeli officials noted that over 100 rockets had been fired by Hezbollah from the Lebanese border that day.
