In the first half of this year, 40,000 people in Japan -died alone- at home

In a tragic incident, an 85-year-old man in Japan was found dead alone in his apartment, and it took a month for his body to be discovered. This raises serious concerns about the increasing number of solitary deaths in the country.

According to data released by the National Police Agency of Japan in August, approximately 40,000 individuals have died alone in their homes during the first half of this year, with over 75% of these deaths attributed to those aged 65 and older. Alarmingly, around 10% of the bodies were only found more than a month after death.

As we grapple with these staggering statistics, it prompts a larger conversation about the societal implications of aging and isolation in Japan.
